The F-16 MLU, although externally similar to the F-16 OCU, has undergone a modernization program which have placed it at the level of the best fighter aircraft in the world. The most important modifications include a set of new equipment and respective software, which enable the use of this aircraft in any combat scenery, and are the following:
    Sophisticated flight computer and respective update combat software; cockpit and interface pilot-machine redesigned; radar with better air-air and air-surface capabilities; electronic aircraft identifier; GPS; Data Modem and Link 16; cryptographic communication capability; use of Night Vision Goggles (NVG) and Helmet Mounted Sight capability; integrated self-protection systems.
This program confer the aircraft new capabilities, the most important being:
    - Long-range detection of air and surface targets;
    - Operation under any weather and light conditions;
    - Identification of other aircraft through electronic detection means;
    - Integration in war field management nets;
    - Use of long-range anti-air missiles;
    - Use of long-range anti-ship and anti-surface weapons;
    - Use of Laser or GPS guided precision weapons;
