 Air Base 11 - Beja
Coat of Arms - Air Base 11

The Air Base 11 (BA11) Mission:
    a) Guarantee the readiness and employment of the assigned air units;
    b) Guarantee the full operation of the airfield;
    c) Guarantee military security and immediate defense of the Air Base.

  Brief History:
    Situated near the city of Beja, BA 11 was established on October 21, 1964, and since then this has been its Base Day.

    The base lies over an area of approximately 900 hectares, and it was built under a bilateral Portuguese-German agreement in order to provide operational training to the German Air Force.

    It started being used by the Germans after 1970, and it served as a support airfield to either Portuguese or German military aircraft and also for flight training of commercial planes both from Lufthansa and TAP Air Portugal.

    In 1987, Squadron 303 from BA 5 - Monte Real was transferred to BA 11, thus beginning a new life cycle on this base, with national aircraft permanently stationed there.

    Later, in 1993, three more air units were assigned to it.
