ETAP-T 2023

Multinational exercise ETAP-T 2023 is a cargo aircraft exercise within the framework of the European Tactical Airlift Center (ETAC).

Participating forces will be deployed at Air Base No. 11, in Beja, and the missions are planned for the central and southern zone of mainland Portugal, with the aim of reducing their impact on the environment and the population.

During ETAP-T 2023, suitable scenarios are developed for each type of mission, according to the characteristics and requirements of each aircraft. Interoperability between different countries is the key to the success of joint and combined operations. Thus, air and land threats will be included in scenarios as close as possible to real situations.

Goals

ETAP-T 2023 aims to train and prepare the Air Force's tactical transport squadron crews, ensuring that the participating forces are ready to carry out the tasks assigned to them in any theater of operations within the European alliance's areas of operation. In addition to individual training, the exercise will promote better interoperability between the various participating forces.

ETAP training

ETAP has become an important achievement as part of a better European defense collaboration. With the opening of the European Tactical Airlift Center (ETAC), running the European Tactical Airlift Program (ETAP), the ambition to establish European advanced airlift tactical training capability to organize common training events and harmonized courses has become come true.

The success of the "Centro" is obvious: since its foundation in June 2017, the immense projects have been evaluated by the participants as excellent.

The initial community of 11 nations (BEL, BGR, CZE, DEU, ESP, FRA, ITA, LUX, NLD, NOR and PRT) has grown with the addition of two new nations, Romania (ROU, Dec 2018) and Austria (AUT, February 2019).

Since the initial flight project in 2012 (EATT, ESP), European Air Forces have realized the added value of having tactical training activities in a common, multinational environment in Europe. Previously, the only option available to train airlift crews in the tactical domain was to send them to courses in the USA (AATTC). With the implementation of ETAC and our projects (ETAP-T, ETAP-C and ETAP-I), EU countries can now benefit from more cost-effective training opportunities and can apply for these projects regardless of the training availability of the USA.
