P-3C CUP+ ORION on Real Thaw

At Real Thaw, the main objective of Squadron 601 - “Lobos”, which operates the P-3C CUP+ ORION, is to improve the interaction with several national and international forces, in order to improve tactics, techniques and combat procedures, in the different types of missions assigned to it.

For Major Silveira, aviator pilot of Squadron 601 - “Lobos”, the Real Thaw “is a complex exercise that allows us to train in very realistic scenarios, being an exceptional opportunity to provide our soldiers knowledge by sharing with the forces of the different countries that are present in order to make the joint operation more efficient.”

During the exercise, the P-3C CUP+ ORION executes several types of missions: Maritime Patrol, Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR); Dynamic Targeting; Anti Surface Warefare (ASuW).

As operations in a maritime environment are the focus of Squadron 601 - "Lobos", this type of exercises allows the squadron to train in a terrestrial environment, routinely giving the military personnel the preparation for this type of mission, since in an off-duty environment there are few opportunities to do so.
