III Conference on Aviation Psychology

As part of the celebrations for the 73rd Anniversary of the Air Force, the III Conference on Aeronautical Psychology was held on 5 November in the auditorium of the Air Force General Staff Headquarters in Alfragide. The theme of the conference was ‘New Approaches and Future Perspectives’ and it was organised by the Air Force Psychology Centre. The event was chaired by the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Air Force, Lieutenant General António Nascimento, who gave the opening speech.

The event, which was attended by 90 participants and a total of 14 speakers, addressed various topics such as stress, emotions, mental load and performance, against the backdrop of the integration between humans and intelligent systems. New approaches to psychological assessment, intervention, training and performance optimisation in aerospace and other highly demanding contexts were also highlighted.

In addition to Air Force personnel, representatives from the Army, the Psychosocial Support Teams of the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority and, representing the President of the Portuguese Psychologists' Association, the President of the Southern Regional Delegation of the Portuguese Psychologists' Association, Miguel Coutinho, were also present.

This initiative, now in its third edition, reinforces the institution's commitment to ensuring the psychological well-being of military personnel, which is essential for the operationality and effectiveness of missions, as well as addressing the future challenges of aeronautical psychology.
