EH-101 Merlin deployed in nighttime rescue

Last Tuesday, November 11th, the Portuguese Air Force carried out the rescue of a 57-year-old woman who was in urgent need of medical assistance on board the vessel MEIN SCHIFF 3.

After the Lisbon Search and Rescue Coordination Center received the alert regarding the need to evacuate the patient, an EH-101 Merlin helicopter from Squadron 751 – “Pumas” – was deployed to conduct the mission.

On board the Air Force helicopter was a medical team that provided initial medical care to the patient during the flight.

After being rescued, the woman was transported by the Pumas to Transit Airfield No. 1, in Portela, where a medical team was already waiting to transfer her to a hospital.

The mission concluded at around midnight, when the EH-101 Merlin landed at Air Base No. 6, in Montijo, after four hours of flight in the name of safeguarding human life.
