Portuguese Air Force has launched the multinational exercise TITAN SKY 2026

The opening ceremony for TITAN SKY 2026 took place today, May 18, at Air Base 11, in Beja. This marks the first edition of a multinational exercise dedicated to training and integrating capabilities in the field of Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS).

The exercise brings together military personnel and participants from Portugal, Belgium, Hungary, and Spain, with additional support from the European Union and the European Defense Agency, in a joint effort aimed at strengthening European cooperation and interoperability among participating forces.

Over the next two weeks, participants will operate in a multi-domain environment through complex and realistic scenarios focused on the operational integration of unmanned aerial systems in contemporary missions, while simultaneously promoting the sharing of experience, the development of procedures, and the strengthening of coordination among allied partners.

During the opening ceremony, Major General António Moldão, 2nd Air Commander, highlighted TITAN SKY 2026 as “an important milestone for European defense cooperation,” also emphasizing that the exercise represents the participating nations’ shared commitment to developing collective capabilities in a domain “increasingly central to modern military operations.”

The opening address also highlighted Portugal’s accumulated experience in integrating unmanned aerial systems into non-segregated airspace, as well as the use of these capabilities in national missions supporting civil protection, wildfire monitoring, maritime surveillance, and the fight against drug trafficking.

The holding of the first edition of TITAN SKY reinforces the Air Force’s capacity to host multinational exercises with high operational demands, while simultaneously promoting innovation, international cooperation, and capability development in the field of unmanned aerial systems
