The Air Force rescued a 70-year-old woman in need of urgent medical attention aboard the ship EUROPA 2 in the early hours of today, 23 October. At the time of the rescue, the vessel was sailing about 64 km southwest of Montijo.

The rescue was carried out using an EH-101 Merlin helicopter from Squadron 751 – “Pumas”, after the Lisbon Search and Rescue Coordination Centre (RCC - Lisbon) received an alert about the need to rescue the woman, who had a broken leg.

After being safely picked up by the Rescue-Saver and receiving the necessary medical care from the Aeronautical Nurse, the woman was left at Transit Aerodrome No. 1, in Portela.
