On 14 November, the Air Force attended Téc4Defence 2025 with a delegation of three military personnel from the Air Force Academy Research Centre (CIAFA) and the Innovation and Organisational Transformation Division.
This participation reinforces the institution's commitment to innovation and technological development in the field of defence.
CIAFA took part in the Industry Day of the Mechanical Engineering Department of the Instituto Superior Técnico, where it presented one of its most recent projects: a navigation and mapping system based on SLAM, using a LIDAR Livox Mid-360 sensor, an NVIDIA Jetson TX2 unit and ROS software. The solution demonstrated allows point clouds to be generated and positions to be estimated in real time, highlighting its potential for applications in autonomous aerial systems.
The Air Force's participation also extended to the panel on ‘Innovation and Technological Development’, with a presentation by Colonel Carlos Batalha. The exhibition space also featured a prototype of the GEOSAT-2 satellite, from the Space Operations Office, and a model of PoSAT-1, provided by OGMA. These contributions highlight the institution's active involvement in the space sector and reinforce the importance of cooperation between academia, industry and public entities — one of the central pillars of Téc4Defence.
